For residents of the Netherlands there has, for a long time been only one option for playing poker online. This may soon change though.

 

 

It has been found that this law is simply too difficult to implement. The trouble involved in blocking foreign poker sites from Dutch players has become more trouble than it’s worth, and the government has decided that it would be easier and more profitable to just make the foreign operators get a license to operate inside the Netherlands. At the moment this only applies poker sites. Dutch players have always had the option to play at any casino online they choose. Lawmakers, and indeed many players, in the US are looking to see how this new Dutch system will work. If the Dutch system does work as a method for
regulating poker sites then it is possible that a similar system will be adopted by either the federal government or by state governments under the control of their lottery commissions. At the moment, US law only allows for online casinos that are located inside the US and only take players from inside the state where the casino is located. Very few states are actually home to any online casinos, so new regulations could mean a large increase in options for online casino players.
